Life Skills Cooking Overview
Skills for Life is a subject that all students here at Bensham Manor really look forward to and enjoy. All classes from year 7 to Post 16 have the opportunity to access and enjoy this essential subject. It gives our students the chance to learn how to cook safely, confidently and independently. They learn a range of skills which they can use to demonstrate and share in their home environment. They learn how to use electrical and manual equipment safely, giving them great opportunities to cook a variety of foods. They can also achieve accreditation through covering a range of AQA units which cover Basic First Aid, Food and Hygiene, Cooking with Spices, Baking for a Fundraising Event and many more…
Skills for Life lessons are in line with the National Curriculum. Lessons are adapted to address the individual needs of all our students, making it an accessible and fun subject for all. Our main aim is to teach our students to be safe, as well as cooking a variety of dishes, embracing new flavours, using lots of different methods and techniques.
Skills for Life teaches the students how to work as part of a team, make decision, and stay focused and control and how to be independent preparing them for the future.
