Music Overview

Music is an international language which is a unique form of communication. It develops pupils’ creativity, allowing them to explore and try out new ideas. It also helps to build the pupils confidence and self-esteem.

At Bensham Manor, the pupils are given an opportunity to develop their musical skills in four key areas: performing, composing, listening and appraising. The Music department is well equipped with a range of different instruments. These include keyboards, djembes and steel pans.

In addition to music lessons, pupils have the opportunity to learn the keyboard with a visiting peripatetic teacher. The school has its own choir, which is popular with the pupils, as well as a school band. Visiting musicians enrich the music curriculum with performances and workshops for the pupils. The school also has a Music Therapist.
